10 good movies and series on SkyShowtime

We have had SkyShowtime in our lives for over half a year: the streaming service that combines the range of various American channels and is full of classic films. It is not a streaming service that constantly releases new content, at least: not as intense as others, but it does regularly contain new content, including a number of very interesting series. These are 10 good movies and series on SkyShowtime.

1. Scarface

‘Say hello to my little friend’: even if you don’t like old movies, or don’t like mafia movies, you should still see Scarface. The story about the Cuban who rather fanatically tries to pursue the American Dream and ends rather tragically (that shouldn’t be a spoiler) still impresses years after release (in 1983). That unpleasant feeling that the film gives you quite quickly, knowing that it will all go completely wrong, makes this a very poignant film. And of course that negative spiral of madness into which Tony Montana finds itself: you can’t take your eyes off the screen.

2.Yellowstone

Yellowstone is a series that gets talked about a lot when it comes to SkyShowtime. The series comes from Paramount and revolves around a large ranch in the US and especially the family that runs it. The Dutton family, who have good intentions in themselves, but who are not always made easy. The action is good, the acting is top notch (thanks Kevin Costner) and the atmosphere is sure to stick with you.

3.Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick is perhaps better than the original Top Gun, although we do miss some of the semi-gay erotic action that Maverick lacks. On the other hand, you get a very exciting, modern film in return, in which we see Tom Cruise as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell shine like a sun again. It is an action film that has become extremely popular and has even received several Oscar nominations: quite impressive for a true blockbuster action film like this.

4. The Office

The Office is a delightful series that we have enjoyed for many years. Like Friends, this is one of those series you can watch anytime. It doesn’t matter in what order, it doesn’t matter if you fall in halfway: this series is always possible. The awkward yet very endearing Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) and of course that love story of Jim and Pam (John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer) is truly amazing. Plus: The Office is referenced so often by people (especially if you work in an office) that you need to know it just to be aware of all the jokes and jokes that are made.

5.American Beauty

It is a film that takes some getting used to, because it is actually a kind of boring story, but at the same time it is also very controversial, and perhaps even recognizable, and all in all a bit strange: American Beauty. It is a film in which a simple man from an American suburb has a fairly simple life. Pretty simple, pretty predictable, until he falls head over heels in love with a very pretty girlfriend of his daughter.

6.Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek is always good, especially if you like technology. Many modern technology has already passed by in Star Trek and that also applies to The Next Generation, which revolves around Jean-Luc Picard who has to ensure that his crew arrives at their destination safe and sound. If you think it was all better in the past, you should definitely watch The Next Generation, because this Star Trek series proves that modern Star Trek is still worth watching.

7. Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is a bit like The Office: if you want to know the jokes and the memes, you have to see Pulp Fiction. In addition to being a Quentin Tarentino films and which are iconic and should be seen. In this Oscar-winning film, we see John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson, among others, in a kind of triptych about two hitmen and more people who are all intertwined.

8.Downton Abbey

If you thought Meghan & Harry was very British, we’ve got news for you: Downton Abbey is the most British thing to watch. The series sounds very boring, but it is very compelling, emotional and at the same time full of interesting games and even violent events that you might not expect so soon. This series, nominated for 69 (!) Emmys, tells the story of a wealthy family and their estate, but really well.

9. 1883

1883 is the prequel to Yellowstone, so check out Yellowstone first, but don’t forget it. This series tells the story of several people who have to survive in the Wild West.

10. Yellowjackets

Not to be confused with Yellowstone, Yellowjackets is a survival drama series with a touch of coming-of-age. It revolves around a football team that survived a plane crash, but still seems to have to live with the consequences 25 years later. Delicious horror that plays with your brain.
