12 Minutes is a game that is not 12 minutes long. It’s a game in which you end up in a kind of time loop and you have to get through the game already Groundhogday’end. Everything takes place in one location and through point-and-click gameplay you make your way through this bizarre story. A bizarre story, but well worth it.
Groundhog Day
One thing that already makes this game different from others is that it is point and click from above. Playing top-down is something completely different and that makes 12 Minutes very interesting. Moreover, everything takes place in one room, while that never disturbs. The funny thing is that all the items you need to progress are also present from the start: it’s only up to you to discover them and combine them correctly to progress.
But you have to do that carefully, because if you make a mistake, you have to start all over again. You are also not allowed to leave the apartment, so be aware that if you do, things will start all over again. You don’t have to feel locked in for a second, though: firstly, you can skip through dialogue you already know, and secondly, it’s reassuring to know that everything you need is in one place. You don’t have to worry that you forgot an item somewhere five worlds ago. Very nice and in a way soothing.

However, there is also stress, because in this game you are a man whose wife has good news, until a cop bangs on the door with the announcement that your wife has to go to the station with you. It’s up to you to find out where the cop gets those weird allegations from. It is a very exciting mystery in which you are completely immersed, despite the perhaps somewhat boring graphics. It is impossible not to get carried away by this story, because the sounds and events complement each other perfectly.
On the other hand, this game is such a mystery that we don’t want to spend too much time talking about it. In any case, keep in mind that this game will probably take longer than you’d expect, but go along with it, because this game will let you sink into a story that will probably stick around for a while. Maybe it’s that top-down play, but you really feel like the main character and that’s why this game seems much more personal than you would expect.
Netflix Games
A nice icing on the cake is that all kinds of well-known actors participate in this game. The main character is voiced by James McAvoy, his wife by Daisy Ridley and there is also a cop voiced by Willem Dafoe. Not the least cast, to bring this already very special story to life even more. We can’t imagine you need more reasons to play this game on Netflix. Have fun!
