Netflix Games Review: Sonic Prime Dash is a race against yourself

It’s a good week for games on Netflix. Oxenfree II was released earlier this week, but now a very charming game has been added with a very familiar face: Sonic Prime Dash.

Endless runner

Sonic loves to run, so 9 out of 10 games you see with Sonic on the smartphone are endless runners. You might think that doesn’t give the same nice feeling as whizzing through levels in the sidescrolling variant of Sonic, as we once got to know him, but that’s not the case. It may be a little less whizzing, but you can also get a very satisfying feeling in Sonic Prime Dash when you roll, jump and dash like crazy through those levels. And yes, that sound of those rings rolling like coins in your pocket, of course, that still helps a lot with that buzzing Sonic experience.

The nice thing about this game is that it is clear within 3 seconds what you have to do. This game is also started within three seconds. Nothing complicated, you can continue immediately. That makes it an ideal game to play while waiting at the bus stop: even if it’s only two minutes. You can then quickly play a game and of course continue playing on the bus. It really is a game to pick up easily, but you have to realize that the easy learning does not mean that you also play it all very easily. Easy to learn, hard to master.

But this game doesn’t make it very hard for you to want to continue: maybe it’s the cheerful colors, the decent graphics or the animals you can save in the game: it’s not that frustrating at all if you screw up. You can very easily start over again and that does not feel frustrating, because there is a lot of action in the game and the endless running does not get boring so quickly. By the way, this game is almost the same as Sonic Dash, Sonic’s regular smartphone game, which has been downloaded by more than 100 million (!) people and even got a successor called Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom.

Not everyone knows, but this Netflix game is also based on a Netflix series, namely Sonic Prime Dash. In this new game you will see characters with the design of that series. The second season of the animated series is now on Flix and to celebrate, the game is here now. The advantage of the game is that you don’t have to pay anything: you don’t have to watch ads either: you have everything at your disposal and you can just start playing. Of course you need a Netflix subscription to access the games section of the streaming service at all.

A wonderful game to play at a ‘dead’ moment such as waiting at the bus, or while watching a wrong series such as Too Hot too Handle, of which a few episodes have now appeared on Netflix. You can do it at any time: even, and we hate to say it, on the toilet, if you’re that type of gamer. Do you wash your hands?
