A new cocktail that uses ingredients dating back to the French Revolution and costs £5,500 per glass is set to become the most expensive cocktail in the world.
Salvatore Calabrese’s cocktail Salvatore’s Legacy uses four ingredients: a 1778 Clos de Griffier Vieux Cognac, a 1770 Kummel liqueur, an 1860 Dub Orange Curacao, and two dashes of circa 1900 Angostura bitters.
The attempt took place at Salvatore’s Calabrese bar at the Playboy Club London in Mayfair, central London, SkyNews reported.
The drink set a new record for the world’s most expensive cocktail, Calabrese claimed.
The record bid was supposed to take place in July but was delayed after a bottle of one of the ingredients broke.
“I was devastated when my bottle broke and thought my dream of breaking the world record was over, but luckily it all worked out and now nothing can stop me,” Calabrese said.
Guinness World Records said it was investigating the claim, which would break its current record holder for the most expensive cocktail, a £3,766.52 cocktail served at a hotel in Dubai.
“GWR can confirm that we have received an official claim for the most expensive cocktail record attempt,” a Guinness World Records spokesperson said.
“The current record for the most expensive commercially available cocktail is the ‘27,321’, priced at AED 27,321 (£3,766.52) on the menu at the Skyview Bar at the Burj Al Arab Hotel, Dubai, UAE.” she said.
“GWR will only be able to confirm whether the attempt was successful three working days after we receive the evidence,” he added.
